One of the joys of Biblical research is to read about something which most people would skip over without giving it another thought but when analysed further it actually turns out as being something extraordinary. So it was that I was researching for the sequel to my Amazon best-seller "Nephilim Skeletons Found" called "Ghosts of the Nephilim" which involved how dreams played a part in divine communication that I came across a scripture concerning King Saul which stopped me in my tracks.
When Saul saw the camp of the Philistines, he was afraid and his heart trembled greatly. When Saul inquired of the LORD, the LORD did not answer him, either by dreams or by Urim or by prophets. (1 Samuel 28:5-6) [bold mine]
I was well aware from my Bible studies that God communicated to man either through his prophets or through dreams and there are plenty of examples for this in the scriptures and elsewhere but what was this URIM thing? From what I had read in this scripture it appeared that there was another way, whatever the Urim was, in which God could communicate with mankind.
With my curiosity aroused, this was one mystery which I wanted to solve. Little did I realise at the time that upon following the trail of breadcrumbs scattered among the pages of the Hebrew scriptures and elsewhere that my journey of discovery would lead me to an extraordinary revelation, one which simply took my breath away in amazement as it will yours.
As soon as I came across and read about the details of the garment worn by the High Priest, which until now had not galvanised much interest to me, and its connection with the Urim, it was like I had been struck by a blinding light. Gasping in astonishment I could not believe my eyes. What I was looking at was an electronic communication device and the Urim was a key component in its construction.
Now, I know what you are going to say - Are you crazy? But hear me out. When it comes to electronics, I know what I am talking about. I have lived and breathed electronic and computer technology for most of my working career. I won't bore you with the details but briefly I began my career at EMI, a major British company involved in consumer electronics, music, defence and retail. As an apprentice in this great company between 1968 and 1972 I learned my trade by working on radio navigation systems, sophisticated reconnaissance systems for the Phantom aircraft and classified mortar locating radar.
In 1972, I became EMI's top apprentice with the highest grades at college and academically with professional qualifications I gained a distinction in Industrial Electronics, credits in Electronic Engineering and Mathematics before moving on to commercial electronics. Here I became involved with maintaining Philips Language Laboratories and telephone operated Dictations Systems using digital technology.
Then along came the computer IT revolution and the introduction of the IBM Personal Computer back in 1981. I grabbed hold of this technology for all its worth and never looked back. Before long, I found myself up to my arm pits building IBM compatible computers until I reached the heady heights of becoming the Technical Director of a PC manufacturing company affiliated with Packard Bell between 1990 and 1995. In that capacity I was responsible for the purchase of component parts from around the world and overseeing production of the PCs and the installation of PC networks in Moscow, Croatia and throughout the UK.
I moved into Software Development from 1995 onwards until 2009, during which time one of my software creations was one of four finalists in the Oscar-like British Computer Industry Awards in 2003. Upon moving to Devon in 2009, I established my company Tekline Publishing and built the business on Website Design, Software Development (Kindle Writer) and have since become an established author with now twelve titles to my name.
I tell you all of this for a very good reason. I know an electronics device when I see one. So when I came across the description of an artefact made of gems, set in a breastplate made of gold with straps of gold filigree (fine twisted wire) and worn by the High Priest it became obvious to me that what I was looking at was such an electronic device. Furthermore, the artefact was being used to receive instructions from God in answer to questions that the High Priest raised. In other words, the artefact was being used as a communication device with a direct line to the Divine Creator. Don't you find that absolutely astounding if not astonishing?
Of course, I don't expect you to believe what I am saying because nobody has suggested such a thing before. But then how many people do you know that are renown bible academics who have an extensive background in electronic communications and computer technology as I do? I bet there are none. So please give me the benefit of the doubt and the opportunity to put forward my case to convince you that what I say is true and share the astonishment and reverence that I felt when I saw God's electronic communication device in all its glory for the first time. It took my breath away as it will yours, I am sure.
