TIM (Tekline Information Manager) GALLERIA Version

TIM GALLERIA incorporates all the features of TIM FREEware and TIM Standard but has the has the ability to store photos independently and link them to a Topic. The photos will be previewed on the main screen in the "thumbnail area", the image box at the top right hand of the screen that currently shows the Tekline logo. In addition, on clicking the thumbnail screen, the photo will open up full size, and you can even magnify areas of the picture should you wish to.

Why would someone want to do that when you can insert photos in the word processor document as found in TIM Standard? The benefits are many. If you are a product manager for example, you could add photos of a particular product on the main screen where also details of the product is managed (see example below in the tutorial). If you are a personnel manager or a receptionist, you could keep note of the staff in your company and show a picture as to what they look like. If you are a hobbyist you may wish to show a picture related to your hobby, a stamp perhaps or a picture of a particular railway engine if you are a railway hobbyist. You may be an artist and would like to show a thumbnails of your artwork to a prospective client - the application for this feature are endless...

Activating TIM Galleria for only £20

You will have downloaded TIM FREEware and may have already created a number of groups and associated topics. But you would like to take advantantage of the word processor functionality found in TIM Standard and the new photo features of TIM Galleria.

You need to purchase a key code that will convert TIM FREEware to TIM Galleria. It only costs £20 (or equivalent currency) and you can purchase it online or send me a cheque for that sum to the address at the footer. A site license is available for a modest fee of £150, enabling you to use this version on as many computers in your workplace as you like, but not a network drive. You will need to purchase TIM Business for network working.

Once you have purchased the key code(it does not matter where you live), the key code will be emailed to to you. Then all you have to do is simply click on Help at the top of TIM FREEware and select Register from the menu and then enter the key. TIM FREEware will automatically change itself to the TIM version you have paid for, in this case TIM Galleria, and away you go. It can't get any simpler than that.

Using TIM Galleria

Having purchased your key for TIM Galleria for (£20) as soon as this is entered in the registration box, your TIM FREEware becomes TIM Galleria. All that you have created remains untouched. At first, apart from the name changing from TIM FREEware to TIM Galleria nothing else seems to have happened. On the contrary a lot has happened. First I would suggest you look at the TIM FREEware and TIM Standard tutorials as both are applicable in TIM Galleria. What is new is the the ability to store photos independently and these are linked to a Topic. The photos will be previewed on the main screen as a thumbnail in the "thumbnail area", the image box at the top right hand of the screen that currently shows the Tekline logo. In addition, on clicking the thumbnail screen, the photo will open up full size, and you can even magnify areas of the picture. Now for more details...

A New feature when creating a Topic

For the sake of an example I am going to presume you are a Product Manager or a sales person who wants to visit clients with details of your company products on your notebook - and you sell mobile phones. You will have perhaps created a Group called, yes you guessed it, "Mobile Phones". This example is simplified, as you would no doubt in the real world maintain a list of mobile phone groups based upon for example "Pay as you Go" or "Contract", or even mobile phones by manufacture. TIM is very adaptable and you can make it do what you want as far developing your product portfolio is concerned. You can keep a list of prices and discounts etc..

OK, so a group has been created and you will now need to add a topic. We are going to call the topic "Pay as you go - Apple iPhone 3G 8GB" and will create the topic the same way as you would do with TIM FREEware/Standard. This time however something different has occurred. Previously, in the "Type" Box a type identification number was automatically entered ie; the number one. This time however, the box is blank! What is going on?

When you add a topic in TIM Galleria the type box is empty. But note that there are now two icon buttons below the yellow topic editing box.

There are now two icon buttons below the yellow topic editing box. Click on either one and the type number associated with the button and the kind of topic created will be inserted. Then you type in the topic name as normal and then save in the normal way.

This is Type 1 and is used the use of TIM word processor notes but without the ability to attach a photo to a topic.
This is Type 7 and is used the used for attaching a photo to a topic as well as for the use of TIM word processor notes.

Your topic will now be saved and this time instead of the usual marker beside your topic which signifies Type 1, if you have selected a photo attachment Type 7 this is now shown instead . If you have a mixed number of topics, some that are type 1 and some that are type 7, by clicking on the Filter button or , your will be able to see only those that are of a particular type. To reset press the Cancel button.

Attaching a Photo/Picture

If you have created a topic that is Type 7 (photo attachment), you can add content in Quick Notes and the TIM word processor in the normal way. But now there is another option available to you. The Attach button is now active. Click on this button and you will be prompted to choose a image file (.jpg, .bmp or. gif). TIM first searches in a folder called STORAGE and I would recommend you transfer any image files to this folder that you intend to use for TIM. To help you to do this a Tekline File Manager is provided as an additional feature to TIM Galleria which can be access by clicking on the File Manager button. You can of course use the standard file managers installed with Windows, but with TIM File Manager you do not have to go outside the program to manage your files.

You will now find that a thumbnail of the picture you had chosen is now shown in the photo thumbnail preview on the mains screen. The power of this feature should not be underestimated. Besides keeping a profile of products, you could maintain a movie database, an artists porfolio databasm, a celebrity database with pictures of each celebrity shown etc; - the list is endless and is only limited by your imagination. But there is more... If you double-click on the picture or click on the Display Photo button this will be displayed full size and you can also use the inbuilt word processor to provide additional information and photos.

There is also another useful feature. If you want you can even magnify an area of the picture with the tool provided on the screen that appears. This feature is ideal for taking a closer at a picture of a stamp, a coin, magnifying an area of a landscape or examining in closer detail of the intricate parts of a machine such as a car engine. There are many uses for such a feature such as taking a look at features on maps as shown in the pictures below.
